ZANKYOU MAGAZINE: El amor y los rituales sagrados de la Boda Shamanica Maya

20 Nov

I’ve been asked to collaborate with ZANKYOU (Gee I so love their name!) a fabulous worldwide wedding registry, wedding website provider and super fun magazine with a number of useful and current articles on all weddings-related topics. One of their best features is that it provides brides & grooms free personal -and easy to use- website builder to publish and share with their loved one the main aspects about their upcoming wedding.

I’ve featured my first article on something I’ve suddenly been hearing and people commenting a lot about lately, and that is the MAYAN culture, with all the end of the world buzz (not happening like that by the way, at least not according to our savvy Mayans) but mostly because of people trying to go “back to basics” when it comes to marrying the one they love, putting aside more and more the formalities of the traditional ceremonies in the quest of authenticity and more meaningful exchanges of vows and commitments. For that and with the help of some very kind guides and friends I’ve written this first collaboration named “El amor y los rituales sagrados de la Boda Shamanica Maya” (How your Spanish knowledge these days by the way?).

Ok, while my articles are currently in Spanish on ZANKYOU MEXICO, I found that my article could easily be translated into english language VIA GOOGLE URL TRANSLATE (what a tool uh!?) and so I’ve come to have a second version of my article right HERE for you, may you want to check it out. It is on LOVE AND SACRED MAYAN SHAMANIC RITUALS for non-traditional or spiritual wedding celebrations. I really hope you like it, and if so please share your comments and click like for me would you 🙂

My next article in ZANKYOU MEXICO is about the great destination of LOS CABOS Baja Sur, Mexico. If you have any suggestions on topics you would like me to talk about, please let me know what it is, as I’d love to write more for you and the topics of your interest.

Hope you like my article on ZANKYOU.

Villa Premiere in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. A dream place for hopeless romantics.

14 Mar

Well, thought I wouldn’t never say this, but just now wish I wasn’t single. Traveling as a single person it’s always easier right? not really having to mind for other people’s assigned seat numbers, lost luggage, delayed flights, etc., you would think: “absolutely sweet”, until… Yes, you get to a hotel that is obviously built for Romance, and you feel well, just a bit lonely. But if you are like me, always looking at things on its brighter side, well, you may think this property and it’s guests, would make anyone hopeful.

That’s my feeling right now as I was just confirmed, me and a couple of my Mexico buyers invited to attend Tianguis Turistico Puerto Vallarta & Riviera Nayarit 2012, are staying at the beachfront VILLA PREMIERE HOTEL & SPA, a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Puerto Vallarta. It so happens that I absolutely love boutique hotels and their contrasting personalities

I’m counting the days until my trip to Puerto Vallarta to stay at this oceanfront, adults-only retreat and after completing our dedicated Romance Agenda of the destination and Tianguis’ commitments, let myself be totally pampered. But truth is papering starts upon arrival with amenities such as welcome champagne glass, 5 minute welcome anti-stress massage, butler service, and more, oh yes this must be the life, I can feel it. After so many places to see, people to meet and deals to close, during Tianguis, this will be absolutely heaven.

I remember –now mouthwatering- having one of the most amazing ceviches at their oceanfront restaurant during my visit last May, it was all oh so great, and so perfect until well we had to head out to check out another in our fam trip.

One of the things I like the most of the Villa Premiere experience – AAA Four Diamond hotel-, was attention to detail and personalization in their service, actually “In order to make your stay more enjoyable” as their motto, they go above and beyond any request, and start serving you way in advance, for example they would send along with your reservation confirmation, a link for your to select from a list your preferences of pillow menu or aromatherapy in your room, among others.

As for their hotel amenities; they pride on surprising their guests the glass of champagne and refreshing cold facial towel on guest’s arrivals, concierge service, personal butler (that can assist you unpacking and packing your luggage, some ironing, shoe shining, and even preparing your Jacuzzi for a romantic evening with candles, rose petals, incense and chocolates. Isn’t it ideal for lovers, honeymooners or what?), two pools (one with swim up bar, which we all like), very comfortable loungers and beach beds, free wireless internet access throughout the property and suites, and all of this conveniences, at just a 5 minute walk to the famous boardwalk in downtown Puerto Vallarta (where you can find shopping, restaurants and bars, discos and more.) what’s not to love right?

However if you thought that was all there was, you were wrong. Villa Premiere is a property with a very strong focus on wellbeing and has Yoga classes, even for those gourmands they have an offering, how about cooking and cocktail preparation workshop with their Executive Chef? Or maybe you just want to chill and enjoy of some quiet time while at the steam room and sauna at their SPA, or if you are one of those individuals than rather use the gym instead of the beach to workout, well, you got that too.

In regards of the rooms and suites -and I would always take a suite in this place- they feature private balconies with ocean views, luxury bathroom amenities, robe and slippers, flat screen TV and DVD player, safety deposit box, minibar, coffee machine, iron and ironing board. A very virtuous property it is. Can’t wait to get back there ASAP, I’ll make sure I prepare myself for a wonderful time as I always have while in Mexico, regardless the destination of choice.

I’m flying out there on the 24th. this month, so beware my “Mexico, lindo y querido” (Lovely, beloved Mexico) for here I go, by myself, the hopeless romantic and travel lover. I head there hopeful too, we never know what there is around the corner, or a thousand miles away, so let’s embrace the trip, the experience and the romance that Puerto Vallarta exudes. Who knows, I just got a memo from a friend, telling me that because of Tianguis’ high demand, there is a room shortage in the destination, so I might be “forced” to sharing some space…   Yeah, there are always great excuses for love in Puerto Vallarta.

And the DESTI Award goes to… MEXICO!!!

17 Feb

2012, is the the inaugural year of DestinationWeddings.com “DESTI Awards” by DestinationWeddings.com , the leading destination wedding and romance travel company in the world, rewarding the absolute best of the hotel and destination performers. Trough the DESTI AWARDS, the company recognizes resorts for their destination wedding capabilities and accomplishments within the wedding market. These awards are the exclusive result of DestinationWeddings.com customer service and satisfaction feedback during the course of 2011.

DestinationWeddings.com has recognized Love Mexico Weddings, as a recipient of a special award for the incredible contributions to the destination wedding and romance travel industry. “Love Mexico has amazing educational forums and must be applauded for their efforts in educating travel agents, wedding coordinators and resort staff” say Destinationweddings.com officers.

  • The top destination winners of the 2011 “DESTI” Awards are: Special Recognition Award: LOVE MEXICO WEDDINGS
And this was the surprise we received yesterday!: “… We are delighted to inform you that Love Mexico Weddings is awarded The DESTI Award for your significant contribution to destination weddings and romance travel. Love Mexico Weddings has been recognized for its outstanding destination wedding training and exceptional accomplishments within the destination wedding and romance travel market. This DESTI Award is testament to the professionalism and hard work of the team at Love Mexico Weddings and we would like you to pass on our congratulations and thanks to all of them. The ultimate accolade is customer satisfaction and this is what we mutually strive for”.

The award ceremony will take place at Vallarta Palace where this year’s recipients will meet during Tianguis Turistico 2012 in Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit.

When I asked Ed Cotton, Chief Operating Officer for DestinationWeddings.com what where his thoughts about marrying in Mexico he immediately responded “I’ve seen thousands of couples marry in Mexico. We have had approximately 7,800 of our couples marry in Mexico in the past seven years and we have arranged travel accommodations for about 343,200 guests attending weddings there. Nearly 60 percent of our destination weddings take place in Mexico and there are plenty of reasons why”.

We discussed as per his experiences how Mexico offers those with small and large budgets much to choose from in terms of resorts, wedding packages, activities and tourist attractions. He added: “Mexico boasts a rich culture, lush landscape, stunning scenery and a variety of activities, making it one of the most popular destinations for couples to marry at. And the most trouble couples and their guests have during their weddings in Mexico is partying a little too much!”.

In terms or styles and sites, we agreed there are endless romantic ceremony sites from which to choose. Whether a couple envisions their ceremony on one of Mexico’s incredible white sand beaches, in a beautiful botanical garden or in one of the country’s historical churches, there’s truly something for everyone.” Then he added:  “couples can also choose from hundreds of beautiful resorts which feature gorgeous suites, quaint double rooms and luxurious designs. Whether a couple is looking for a small hotel on the coast of the Riviera Maya or a high-end resort in the heart of one of Mexico’s colonial cities, there is a property to meet their needs”, and that’s what the DESTI awards praises, excellence for destination weddings clients.

Other very important point that he made, had to do with weddings in Mexico being  affordable, which is one of the most important factors when it comes to deciding where to have a wedding, considering also the trip is also affordable for their guests.  Not to mention, once the main events have passed, there’s so much for couples and their guests to see and do.  He talked then about the archeological sites, exciting excursions, beautiful beaches, hip restaurants, local eateries and swanky bars and clubs. “A wedding in Mexico truly allows couples and their guests to be immersed in culture, music and romance. The plethora of activities, sites and ceremony and reception venues keep engaged couples coming back year after year” Mr. Cotton highlighted.

The wrap up our session, Mr. Cotton concluded “No matter where our couples stay in Mexico, the atmosphere, culture, attractions and landscape in unbeatable. While couples leave Mexico with incredible wedding memories, their guests leave with wonderful memories as well”, and I couldn’t agree more.

Friends, with this opportunity I remind you to make sure you check out the MEXICO WEDDING PLANNER online booklet for a weatlh of wedding realted Mexico destination profiles and references. Or for some Mexico weddings testimonials, we were invited to check out DESTINATIONWEDDINGS.COM blog

Thank YOU very much DestinationWeddings.com for awarding Mexico trough Love Mexico this very meaningful award.

Weddings in Mexico | VisitMexico.

I’d like to say I’m celebrating, although I’m not sure if i should. On the one hand we have finally a “proper” Mexico Website, so much “friendlier” and aesthetically attractive than before, with more direct and common language to all special interest travelers out here, this time particularly the romance one… Mhmhm, is it just me or is this new site really missing some more HEART into in? would love your feedback.

Anyways, today I’m happy, a great progress has been to see the evolution of a social network use and online site as an aid to promote our beautiful country that is Mexico. Tomorrow I’ll probably talk to someone and let them know, for me when it comes to Romance and Wedding is quite ofter the number one, and well, the site still doesn’t call LOVE to me, again is it just me, am i to picky? what is it about having the looks, but not having the flair? Can I be “half/happy” on the meantime? or waiit a minute what are we talking bout here? oh yes, the new MEXICO TOURISM BOARD – AKA: VISIT MEXICO website. Yes, it doest have all this new fancy ‘relationship’ buttons, you know?; the share, tweet, post, blog, etc. where any of our content can be related to some or any of your social life happening, and that’s just makes me smile, again today that should work.

Happy Monday to you all, check it out please and let us know what you think about it if you may: weddings@visitmexico.com

Honeymoon in Mexico – TravelAge West

Honeymoon in Mexico

TAW speaks with Carmen Laborin, director of romance for the Mexico Tourism Board

May 28, 2011

No one knows honeymoons in Mexico quite as well as Carmen Laborin, director of romance for the Mexico Tourism Board. TravelAge West had a chance to talk to Laborin and get the inside scoop on some of the country’s unique offerings when it comes to romance in the region.

“Mexico is a world-class destination offering many unique and distinct experiences for every type of traveler,” said Laborin.

In addition to having several of the top sun and beach destinations in the world, Mexico has 30,000 archeological sites, 110,000 monuments, 31 UNESCO World Heritage sites and is second only to the U.S. in its number of spas, said Laborin.

While she didn’t want to single out any one destination, Laborin said that her honeymoon favorites for a beach destination include Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Maya and Acapulco.

“[These destinations] are all diverse in terms of water, activities and feel,” she said. “Everyone should experience at least these four beach destinations in Mexico.”

When it comes to inland destinations, Laborin recommends Oaxaca and San Miguel de Allende as her personal favorites.

Where to Stay
Mexico offers more AAA Five-Diamond award-winning properties than Canada, Hawaii and the Caribbean combined, said Laborin. But that doesn’t mean that a honeymoon in Mexico is too expensive for the average client.

“Mexico is absolutely affordable,” said Laborin, “particularly when a couple is on a budget. Mexico has always been perceived as a great value to U.S. tourists, so as the economy has made it challenging for many people to travel abroad, Mexico remains a popular and desirable travel destination. It’s close to home, yet far from ordinary; the exotic appeal is included.”

For those looking for an affordable experience, Laborin recommended a variety of destinations.

“Oaxaca is an amazing destination and a favorite for its gastronomy. Merida is filled with color, music and folklore, and Veracruz and Chiapas offer magnificent beaches and rivers,” she said. “These destinations are filled with adventure from river rafting and ziplining to bike tours or romantic horseback rides and bonfires on a luxury campsite. And, they are all affordable, with stylish hotels and bed and breakfasts.

Laborin also recommends cities such as Campeche, Acapulco, Ixtapa, San Carlos and La Paz.

For clients who really want to escape, Laborin recommends a few off-the-beaten-path hotels such as Hacienda de Los Santos in Alamos; El Tamarindo in Costa Alegre; Sitio Sagrado or Posada del Tepozteco in Tepozltan; Hacienda Lomajim in Jalisco; Nirvana in Atotonilco; Hacienda Xcanatun in the Yucatan; Hacienda Uayamon in Campeche; Hotelito Desconocido in Careyes; Capella in Ixtapa; Hacienda Santuario Centro or Casa de Sierra Nevada in San Miguel de Allende.

“I could go on and on with this list,” she said. “Once you get to any of these hotels, you don’t want to leave the property. There are so many wonderful places I could recommend, the kind of places that make you want to be in love every day of your life.”

Gettin’ Busy

One of the most popular activities for honeymooners is a trip to the spa to relax and unwind after the months of planning before the wedding. Mexico has more spas than most other countries in the world, apart from the U.S. Spas in Mexico have specialized in blending ancient techniques and local elements such as cocoa, coffee, spices and more resulting in a truly special experience.

Other activities for couples include, cooking classes, Latin dance lessons, golf lessons, photographic excursions, genuine market tours, golf, horseback-riding lessons, volunteering, sunbathing on one of the Mexican islands, moonlit dining and star gazing.

“Like the saying goes, ‘it takes two to tango’ and, in Mexico, its all about the love,” said Laborin. “Clients can learn to salsa or cumbia dance. In Mexico, people even dance closer than they do in many other places. It’s truly a romantic activity.”

Laborin recommends dancing lessons at Danzon in Veracruz. Clients can learn to salsa dance in Playa del Carmen at Solexico or at La Bodeguita de en Medio.

Another romantic suggestion Laborin has for a couple is a culinary experience.

“How about a cooking lesson for two or in a small group?” she said. “A visit to Mexico is about trying out new flavors and savoring many different palettes — just like in a couple’s life. Going to the local market together and, then, learning something new and enjoying the result of the experience, such as the lovely meal you cooked, is priceless.”

Some suggestions for culinary experiences include a cooking lesson in Merida with Los Dos or at Catherwood. Clients can also head to the Sazon Cooking School and Boutique by Casa Sierra Nevada in San Miguel de Allende. For a candlelit table for two by the beach or a river with a saxophone player, head to the River Cafe in Puerto Vallarta or enjoy dinner and a performance on Vallarta Adventures’ Rhythms of the Night tour, which transforms the island of Las Caletas into a mystical paradise.

When it comes to more adventurous activities, Laborin suggested the following: snorkeling in Riviera Maya with Phantom Divers, swimming at a fresh-water sinkhole arranged by Amigo Yucatan DMC, river rafting with Mexico Verde in Veracruz, horseback riding with Blue Mexico in Huatulco, learning to surf in Punta Mita with Tranquilo Surf and whale watching in La Paz with Journey Mexico.
